Frequently Asked Questions

For guests travelling from the UK, the direct flight from London Heathrow to Cape Town takes approximately 12 hours, and there will be a 2-hour time difference in November. As most flights travel overnight, it is certainly possible to visit for a shorter period if time doesn’t permit.
That said, we would highly recommend staying for at least a week if you can. Cape Town and the surrounding areas have so much to offer, from beautiful beaches and wine farms to hiking, wildlife, and incredible food.
Please keep in mind that there will be wedding celebrations across two days: Friday 26th November and Saturday 27th November, so we recommend planning your trip around these events.
We will be arriving in Cape Town around a week and a half before the wedding and will be spending time exploring the area with friends and family. Everyone is very welcome to join us for any activities and adventures during that time; the more, the merrier!

Late November is one of the most beautiful times of year in Cape Town. The city will be heading into summer, so you can expect warm, sunny days and long evenings.
Average daytime temperatures are typically between 20–28°C, although hotter days are certainly possible. Evenings are usually pleasant and mild, but it can cool down once the sun sets, so you may wish to bring a light jacket or wrap.
Cape Town is also famous for its wind so don't be surprised if there is a refreshing breeze. Rain is uncommon at this time of year, but as with any destination, the weather can always keep us guessing.
-
We would recommend booking your flights as soon as you feel comfortable doing so. For travel to Cape Town, flight prices can vary quite a bit depending on the time of year and how far in advance you book, so securing tickets early often helps with both availability and cost.
As a general guide, many guests tend to book their flights around 6–10 months in advance, but there is no set requirement and you should plan according to what works best for you.
Once flights are booked, we are very happy to help with any questions around timings, transfers, or making the most of your trip.

For travellers coming from the UK, there are currently no mandatory vaccinations required to enter South Africa, provided you are travelling directly and have not recently been in a yellow fever risk country.
However, recommended vaccinations can depend on where you plan to travel within South Africa and the nature of your trip. For this reason, we strongly suggest checking with your GP or a travel clinic before you travel, especially if you are planning to visit other regions beyond Cape Town.
They can give personalised advice and ensure you are up to date with routine vaccinations (such as tetanus, diphtheria, and polio), and may also discuss options like hepatitis A or typhoid depending on your itinerary.
As always, it’s best to seek up-to-date medical guidance tailored to your individual plans.
-
Visa requirements depend on your nationality. Many visitors, including UK passport holders, can currently visit South Africa for tourism without obtaining a visa in advance. However, entry requirements can change, so we recommend checking the latest information with your local South African embassy or consulate before booking your trip.
Please also ensure that your passport is valid for at least 30 days after your planned departure date and has sufficient blank pages for entry stamps.
-
South Africa uses predominately Type M plug sockets, which are different from UK and European plugs. Some hotels and newer accommodation may also have additional socket types (such as EU plug sockets) or USB charging ports, but we recommend bringing a universal travel adaptor to be safe.
-
Most international mobile phones will work in South Africa, but roaming charges can be expensive. Before travelling, check with your mobile provider to understand any roaming costs.
Alternatively, you may wish to buy a sim at the airport. There is a Vodacom shop just after you go through baggage claim at Cape Town airport where they will be able to sort this out for you.
-
In Cape Town, tap water is generally considered safe to drink and is of a high quality. You should be able to refill your water bottle from the tap without any concerns.
-
South Africa has 12 official languages! In Cape Town, the most commonly spoken languages are English, Afrikaans, and isiXhosa. English is widely spoken and used in hotels, restaurants, shops, and tourist attractions, so visitors should have no difficulty communicating.
-
Whether or not you hire a car depends on your plans. If you are only staying in Cape Town for a few days and plan to explore the city, Uber is widely available and often very affordable.
However, if you would like to visit wine regions, beaches, nature reserves, or other attractions further afield, having a car gives you much more flexibility and can be a great way to explore at your own pace. Please see the Travel and Stay page for details on car hire options.
-
Yes! Uber is widely available throughout Cape Town and is generally a convenient, reliable, and cost-effective way to get around.

Late November is a wonderful time to visit Cape Town, with warm temperatures, plenty of sunshine, and long summer days. We recommend packing light, comfortable clothing suitable for warm weather, along with plenty of sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat.
That said, Cape Town is known for experiencing "four seasons in one day"! While the days are often hot, evenings can be cooler and the famous Cape winds can make it feel surprisingly chilly. We would therefore suggest bringing a light jacket, jumper, or wrap for the evenings.
If you're planning to explore beyond the wedding festivities, comfortable walking shoes are a must.
In summary, we'd recommend packing:
Light, breathable clothing for warm days
Formal attire for the wedding celebrations (remember the brighter the better)
A light jacket or jumper for cooler evenings
Comfortable walking shoes
Swimwear
Sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen
A travel adaptor for South African plug sockets

Dress to impress! November is the beginning of summer in Cape Town, so it is likely to be warm (and potentially very hot), so please keep this in mind when choosing your outfit.
We would love to see lots of colour, the brighter and bolder, the better! Think vibrant dresses, colourful suits, and joyful summer wedding attire.
The dress code is formal-ish. We'd like everyone to feel comfortable while still looking wedding-ready.
Most importantly, wear something that makes you feel ready to celebrate with us!
-
Absolutely! Children are very welcome to join us for the wedding festivities.
For the ceremony itself, we kindly ask that very young children are temporarily cared for elsewhere. Babysitting services will be available and can be arranged for as long as you need. If you think you may wish to make use of this service, please let us know in advance so that we can ensure we have the appropriate childcare arrangements in place.
We can't wait to celebrate with the whole family!
-
We will be confirming the exact ceremony time closer to the wedding date, and we will update this section as soon as all timings are finalised.
In the meantime, we would suggest planning to arrive at least 30–45 minutes before the ceremony begins. This will allow plenty of time to find your seat, settle in, and enjoy a relaxed start to the celebrations without feeling rushed.
We will of course share all final timings and a detailed itinerary well in advance of the day.
-
All festivities will be on site at the venue and there is plenty of parking, so we will evaluate closer to the wedding date if it is appropriate to put on transport for guests between the accommodation (which is all nearby) and the venue.
If you are staying elsewhere, we will also share guidance on the best transport options so you can still get to and from the celebrations easily.
Our aim is to make the day as smooth and stress-free as possible so everyone can relax and enjoy the festivities.
-
If your invitation includes a plus one, please feel free to bring your partner. When you RSVP, we would be grateful if you could let us know whether your plus one will be attending.
If a plus one has not been specified on your invitation, we are sadly only able to accommodate the named guest(s) listed. We hope you understand, and we are very much looking forward to celebrating with you.
-
Yes, absolutely. Please ensure you specify any dietary requirements or allergies when completing your RSVP so that we can share this information with our caterers in advance.
We will do our very best to accommodate everyone’s needs so that all guests can enjoy the meal comfortably and safely.
-
We are hoping to hold the ceremony and celebrations outdoors, with the meal taking place indoors. However, this will be weather dependent, and we will make final decisions closer to the wedding day.
We will share more detailed information as we get closer to the time, once we have a clearer idea of the conditions, to ensure everything runs smoothly and comfortably for everyone.
-
Yes, there will be additional wedding celebrations taking place from Friday 26th November through to the evening of Saturday 27th November.
We are currently finalising the full schedule, and more detailed information will be shared in our itinerary section. Please take a look there for a full breakdown of events, and timings.
We are really looking forward to spending extra time with everyone and making a full weekend of celebrations together!
-
We will be arranging accommodation for all guests on Friday the 26th November and Saturday the 27th November. We will provide further details about this closer to the time.

Money and Practicalities
-
South Africa uses the South African Rand (ZAR), which is usually shown with the symbol R.
Credit and debit cards are widely accepted throughout Cape Town, including at restaurants, shops, wineries, and tourist attractions, so you won't need to carry large amounts of cash. Contactless payments are also commonly accepted.
It's still a good idea to have a small amount of cash on hand for tips, small purchases, or places that may not accept cards.
For our UK guests, the exchange rate is approximately £1 = R22 but this obviously fluctuates.
-
People usually tip between 10-20% of their total bill at restaurants.
You may also come across informal parking attendants, often known locally as “car guards”. They look after parked cars in public areas to help keep them safe. It is standard practice to offer them a small tip when you return to your car, typically a few rand (cash), as a gesture of appreciation.
For example, if you hire a car, petrol attendants will often fill up your tank for you at service stations, and it is common to offer them a small tip for their help.

Yes, credit and debit cards are widely accepted throughout Cape Town and most of South Africa, including in restaurants, shops, hotels, wineries, and tourist attractions. Contactless payments are also commonly used and generally very convenient.
Visa and Mastercard are the most widely accepted, while American Express is accepted in many places but not everywhere, so it’s worth having a backup card if possible.
It’s still a good idea to carry a small amount of cash for tips, parking attendants, or smaller vendors who may not accept card payments.
